    Sälen Ski Resort

    Located just an hour from Trysil in Sweden, Sälen is found in the Dalarna region, near the Norwegian border. Sälen is home to four ski areas, Lindvallen, Högfjället, Tandådalen, Hundfjället. Each area is suited to a range of abilities and encompasses more than 151km of terrain. The ski network is well connected, with Lindvallen being the closest to the centre, and the main beginner slopes. The resort has a peaceful atmosphere with breathtaking scenery. It is a great choice for skiers who prefer a more laid-back ski resort. Sälen is best suited to families and beginners, with a ski school in each ski area.

    Off the slope there are plenty of activities to explore the ski resort in a different way. Here visitors will find a water park, indoor surfing, a cinema, boutiques and restaurants. For a unique experience, there are dog sled rides and snowmobile safaris.

    Ski Areas in Sälen

    The ski pass for Sälen encompasses all four ski areas; Lindvallen, Högfjället, Tandådalen, and Hundfjället.

    Each area ranges in difficulty, with a level for every type of skier or snowboarder.

    Sälen is a great choice for both children and adult beginner skiers to develop. The ski area is the largest in Sweden and has excellent opportunities to progress across varied terrain.

    As mentioned, Sälen is made up of four ski areas.

    Lindvallen is found nearest to the centre of the ski resort and is the main hub for beginners.

    Högfjället is the perfect area to build confidence, with most slopes being blue and green. For families it’s a great area to ski together from the top of the slope.

    For the more advanced skier, there is the Tandådalen ski area, which offers high-speed and more challenging slopes. There are some beautiful cruisy blue runs in this area to choose for a less intense run.

    Hundfjället is suited for all abilities, with varying slopes scattered across the area. From the steep Väggen to the children’s favourite Trollskogen, there will a slope for everyone in your group.

    Sälen is great for snowboarders as there are many wide groomed slopes.

    For those who enjoy honing their freestyle skills, there are two snow parks in Tandådalen and in Lindvallen. Tandådalen has a larger, more comprehensive snow park, while Lindvallen is more basic and perfect for those learning.

    Lessons are provided in Lindvallen, Högfjället, Tandådalen and Hundfjället.

    Ski lessons are available for both children and adults, either in mixed groups or one-to-one private lessons.

    Anyone aged seven and over requires a valid ski pass to attend ski school lessons. Insurance is provided to everyone who books a lesson with SkiStar Ski School.

    Each area in the resort has a unique atmosphere, with a vibe to suit every need.

    Hundfjället is an excellent area to enjoy après ski if you are looking for an authentic ‘mountain lodge’ vibe.

    For the typical après ski scene, Tandådalen is the place to go. From February when the sun sets later, the ski area comes alive with live music.

    If you are looking for a lively atmosphere, Högfjället is a great place for dining and late-night bars.

    Head to Lindvallen for a good selection of restaurants and bars.

    Snogubben – This is the perfect pit stop on the slope. The menu is varied, with local dishes available as well as international options. Visit in the evening and catch a ride in the piste-basher to the restaurant!

    Frö Restaurang – this is an excellent choice for a fine dining experience. It is one of the best restaurants in Sälen and has an extensive wine list.

    Gustav Grill & Bar – a great choice for a laid-back meal. The menu has international dishes, giving an option for every taste. Perfect for both kids and adults.

    For non-skiers there are plenty of activities to discover in Sälen. In Lindvallen you will find Experium, a mini shopping centre with cafes, shops, restaurants, an adventure pool, an arcade and a bowling alley.
