Gstaad Switzerland

Gstaad is an attractive Swiss ski resort, recently it has become associated with “high society jet setters” because of the many luxurious shops and award-winning restaurants that adorn the streets and the reports of  “A listers” that have visited the resort. However, at heart it remains a pretty chalet village, which has an understated charm despite its growing popularity.

The skiing is of course fantastic and this is the major appeal of the area for all who visit. The village lies in a valley in the heart of the Bernese Oberland, surrounded by well-groomed slopes and tree lined mountains. The Saanenland ski area in which Gstaad lies, has great transport facilities and a mixture of different runs and snow parks making it perfect for any skier/boarder.  The resort is low lying, but there are 220km of pistes of altitudes of up to 3000m which mean the slopes generally have a good quality of snow for the majority of the season.

Gstaad as a village itself has a lot to offer. Dining in Gstaad is a real treat and is a highlight of this resort. There are many renowned restaurants, and while they may be pricey, they will not disappoint. For those wanting a simpler but still decent meal there are also the usual pizzerias and traditional alpine restaurants that one would expect and which are very pleasant and affordable. The area is also known for hosting many different events and festivals during the season, such as the music festival “Ride On” and beautiful Christmas markets, so any time of the year you come you will experience the varying delights of Gstaad.
