Åre Ski Resort
Åre is Scandinavia’s largest ski resort and widely considered its skiing capital, offering world-class terrain, rich Alpine tradition and stunning views over Lake Åresjön. If you’re looking for a new resort to explore, Åre in Sweden is the place to visit. The mountains here are gentler and more rounded than those in other Alpine destinations, creating a unique skiing landscape with beautiful tree-lined runs. The northern location brings long sunlit days and magical twilight skiing. This combined with amazing snow conditions, makes for a truly memorable and one-of-a-kind skiing experience.
Åre offers a huge variety of slopes for all levels, from easy greens and fun children’s areas to cruisy blues and reds, plus challenging black slopes for those seeking an adrenaline boost. It also has three terrain parks and a half-pipe, making it a hotspot for freestyle skiing and snowboarding, while extensive off-piste terrain allows adventurous skiers to explore without needing advanced off-piste experience. A key part of enjoying Åre to the fullest is choosing the right area to stay in. Åre By is predominantly red-run territory and best suited to confident intermediates and experts, while Björnen is ideal for families and learners, with plenty of gentle terrain and an excellent ski school.
The village itself is charming, with restaurants, shops and a vibrant après-ski scene. Known as “Little Stockholm”, Åre has some of Sweden’s best après bars and more than 60 restaurants, making it as enjoyable off the slopes as it is on them.
