Our Ski Expert Mark Visits La Rosière

After a couple of days in the family-friendly French resort, I have put together my La Rosière ski recommendations. These include where to stay, dining out and the fantastic La Rosière ski area. Read on to find out more.

La Rosière is a pretty village that is very family friendly. Linking Les Eucherts and La Rosière, the lit-up, snowy enchanted forest walk is a nice touch. There is good intermediate skiing in the new La Rosière ski area with lovely off-piste opportunities. A drag lift links to the Italian ski resort of La Thuile, adding to the skiing and experience. You can ski over for an Italian lunch or book heli-skiing in La Thuile. Most of the properties are in Les Eucherts and are within 200m of the pistes, making it very easy for families.

Where to stay?

I stayed at the luxurious Hyatt Centric in La Rosière, which is a great family hotel with spacious rooms. My room’s balcony caught the sun and had fabulous views across the Alps and resort. Most of the rooms have the option to interconnect, making it great for families. Ski-in ski-out, you’ll need to schuss from the ski room and cross the road for the lift. On returning, the ski room is accessible from the slope, provided you take the right piste!

After a day on the slopes, a soak in the large bathtub is inviting and the TV has a selection of UK channels. The room even has English plug sockets and iPhone chargers! The hotel has a spa with a swimming pool, hammam, hot tubs and treatment rooms. The hot tub on the deck had beautiful views over the mountains, and there were two more indoors if it was occupied. The bar and restaurant are nice and warm, set around a large, round fireplace.

Where to dine?

The Hyatt has a large buffet breakfast that will prepare you for a morning of skiing. In addition, there is a buffet restaurant and Italian restaurant for dinner. Restaurant Le Flocon is a good spot next to the ski school and childcare. They serve a mix of kid friendly meals like pasta and pizza as well as Savoyard dishes. There are deck chairs outside too for sunbathing after lunch or having a drink at après. La Rosière also has a collection of traditional French restaurants serving Savoyard cuisine.

My highlights

It has to be the amazing ski area, made even better with fresh snow. During our stay, we enjoyed skiing soft and untouched snow late in the morning and off-piste runs were easily accessible and made safe. I’d highly recommend the enchanted forest walk, followed by a warming vin chaud or hot chocolate at the lively Avancher bar.
