The state-of-the-art lift systems make it very easy to get around the mountain. You can access neighbouring ski resorts Avoriaz and Morzine by using the Linga gondola or head up to the Swiss side via the Super Châtel lift. A fantastic way to enjoy 600km of incredible skiing terrain.

Châtel ski resort is 1,200m – 2,466m making it one of the more snow-sure skiing spots in the area. Châtel’s ski terrain is mostly suited to beginners and intermediates. There are, however, some fun tree runs and a few bowls for those who want to head off-piste.

The village is spread out but has kept its traditional alpine charm. There’s a great selection of hotels and chalets to stay in with different price ranges. There are also plenty of off-snow activities, bars and restaurants to enjoy too. Perfect for families, this ski resort has excellent crèche and ski school facilities which are available to keep kids busy during the day and evening. If you fancy trying Nordic skiing, there’s a dedicated centre in the valley between Châtel and the neighbouring village La Chapelle d’Abondance.

The best airport to fly to is Geneva, with an easy one hour twenty minute transfer time to Châtel. Perfect for getting the most of your time out on the mountains.

There is a vast amount of options for skiing in Châtel ski resort, as the Portes du Soleil ski area is on your doorstep. AvoriazMorzine and Torgon are but a few of the nearby ski resorts which are easily accessible. In Châtel ski resort itself, skiing is separated into two different mountains: Super-Châtel and Linga. Beginners will find lots of easier slopes around Châtel ski resort but advanced and intermediate skiers will most likely want to venture out into the Portes du Soleil to find more challenging pistes and freeride terrain.

Beginner boarders will have a good time cruising around Châtel’s greens and blues, whilst intermediates and advanced boarders will soon be keen to venture out to the Portes du Soleil. Freeriders will have plenty of tree runs and a few bowls to discover but may want to head to Avoriaz for more extensive powder runs. Châtel’s terrain park is best suited to beginner and intermediate riders, whilst experts will want to head over to freestyle paradise Avoriaz.

Châtel is a family-orientated ski resort, providing access to a good range of childcare options. ESF and Châtel Sensations both offer child ski lessons starting from three years old. For non-skiing children, there is Les Mouflets, who will look after children as young as four months. There are also private nannies in resort who can offer additional services such as evening babysitting.

With lots of hotels in Châtel ski resort, there are several reputable hotel restaurants that serve a range of international and local cuisines. For a mix of traditional Savoyard and contemporary cuisine head to either Le Vieux Four or La Poya. La Ripaille is one of the most popular restaurants in Châtel located opposite the Linga gondola. On the mountain, La Leiche is a quaint little gastro-bar with a real log burner, serving classic, hearty lunches which visitors to the French Alps will love.

For those that have a car; Evian, Geneva and Thonon are nearby pretty towns which are ideal for a day excursion.
