Swiss Luxury by Rail

Travelling from West to East via two of Switzerland's classic rail journeys, the Golden Pass and the Glacier Express, you’ll experience the outstanding beauty of Switzerland from the comfort of your carriage – from glamourous Gstaad to the glitz of St Moritz via the one and only Zermatt. Enjoy fine dining, great skiing, and rich Swiss culture on this luxurious adventure.

The first ski resort you’ll experience is Gstaad, where the advanced skiers can experience the Glacier 3000 whilst the gentler skier can enjoy the tree lined runs leading down to the charming village. Off the slopes there are numerous activities to keep you occupied from guided winter walks, horse and carriage rides - perhaps to a traditional and rustic lunch stop, or even a hot air balloon for a unique view of the Alps from the sky.

The second ski resort on your journey is Zermatt. It's an incredible destination at any time of year but in winter it is truly spectacular. A feast for the eyes: from traditional wooden and stone houses and barns in the old town to stunning Belle Epoque style buildings and all with the most picturesque mountain in the world, the Matterhorn, as backdrop. There is plenty of terrain for all abilities here and you can even ski over to Italy, down sunny southfacing slopes, and of course stopping for an amazing coffee at lunch!

The Glacier Express is a highlight of the trip and will transport you in style to your final destination St Moritz. Perhaps the most iconic rail journey in Switzerland you'll admire the views in a panoramic carriage whilst enjoying first class hospitality.

St Moritz is a historic spa town where you’ll experience winter luxury at its finest. There’s some great terrain here spread over 155km of pistes and well suited to intermediate skiers. The pistes are groomed to perfection and the covered chairlifts have heated seats so the luxury experience continues on the slopes as much as off.

During this adventure, you’ll be staying at three superb hotels: the romantic Gstaad Palace that towers over the charming village below, the historic Mont Cervin Palace where horse and carriage will take you from the train station, and lastly finishing at Hotel Badrutt's Palace where you’ll experience true luxury.

Zermatt ski resort is commonly regarded as one of the best ski towns in the world, offering fabulous skiing, stupendous scenery and an extensive variety of high-quality restaurants and hotels. There has been a settlement here since the Middle Ages, with the first tourists flocking to the area in 1838. The town retains its traditional charm to this day with it being car-free, which creates a wonderfully relaxed and peaceful atmosphere and allows visitors to enjoy the clear mountain air. Free electric buses connect all the main lift stations on the valley floor and there are plenty of milk float-style electric taxis for hire. Wander off the main Bahnhofstrasse and you will quickly be walking beside ancient wooden “mazot” huts filled with farm animals and hay.

The magnificent Matterhorn is sufficient reason in itself to visit Zermatt ski resort. This distinctive pyramidal peak has become Switzerland's trademark around the globe. Wherever you are skiing the slopes or in the village, you cannot resist regular glances to see how its appearance is changing according to the light and the cloud conditions. At an altitude of 3,883m, the Matterhorn Ski Paradise is Switzerland's highest ski area; guaranteeing fabulous skiing conditions all season long which truly live up to the magic of the town.
