Escape the busy crowds at Geneva Airport and switch it up by visiting ski resorts near Milan. As Milan Airport is an excellent hub to access some of the best Italian ski resorts, you can avoid the inevitable hassle of visiting a busier airport and still have a great choice of ski regions nearby for your next ski trip.

The Aosta Valley ski region is the nearest to Milan and boasts a fantastic range of ski areas to suit every type of skier. Home to remarkable views of the Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, and Monte Rosa, you’ll be spoiled for choice of views when visiting.

We’ve taken a fresh look at these resorts for winter 25/26 to make sure they’re still the best ski resorts near Milan for your next ski holiday.

Pila

Just over 90 minutes from Milan, Pila is a great choice. The Italian ski resort is deemed the ‘undiscovered diamond’ of the Aosta Valley. With more than 70 kilometres of piste catering to all difficulty levels, it is ideal for mixed-ability groups. There are acres of off-piste terrain perfect for those who like a challenge. For beginners, there are dedicated learning areas that are easily accessible.

Not only is it great for groups, but it is perfect for a ski weekend. Being a short transfer from the airport, skiers are able to make the most out of a long weekend. Make the most of the virtually non-existent lift queues and the quiet slopes – a real bonus!

An excellent choice for families and groups looking for a perfectly located ski-in ski-out hotel.

Cervinia

Cervinia is one of the more well-known ski resorts in Italy and is just a two-hour drive from Milan airport. With some of the highest altitudes in the Alps, it is easy to see why Cervinia is classed as one of the best ski resorts near Milan. The resort base starts at 2,050 metres and reaches a grand 3,480 metres on the slopes. Snow-sure skiing is guaranteed during the season, plus, there’s direct access to Zermatt. Cervinia is home to more than 160 kilometres of pistes, but with the border connection to Switzerland, skiers will have access to even more terrain. The scenery is impressive – with the towering Matterhorn Mountain in full view on many of the pistes – it’s hard to miss!

Cervinia has several lively bars and a buzzing après ski scene. Visit the Yeti bar near the Cretaz chairlift for a fun afternoon. The restaurant selection is great – from incredible gourmet fine dining menus to traditional dishes, there is something for everyone.

Stay At:

A family-run hotel since 1975, with a well-deserved reputation for its comfort. Marvel at the breathtaking views of the Matterhorn.

Gressoney

Gressoney is an excellent choice for a quieter escape. Two Italian villages make up this charming ski resort. Found in the heart of the Aosta Valley’s Monterosa ski area, Gressoney is rich in cultural tradition and excellent skiing. The transfer time to Milan Airport comes in just under two hours. The ski area amasses more than 180 kilometres of piste, making it a great choice for a short break.

Surrounded by the towering Dolomites, the scenery is second to none: with sprawling views of the Mont Blanc, the Gran Paradiso, and the Matterhorn, you’ll enjoy a relaxed atmosphere in the mountains. The après scene is quieter than its Alpine counterparts; however, you’ll be sure to find a bustling bar for a well-earned drink.

The charming hotel offers an extensive wellness area, an excellent gourmet restaurant and a free shuttle to the slopes.

Champoluc

Champoluc is still largely undiscovered by Brits and is considered one of the last hidden gems in the Alps. The slopes tend to be uncrowded with quieter lift queues. The first week of January is when Champoluc is the busiest, with many tourists arriving from Turin. Apart from that, you’re likely to have the piste to yourself! Generally, the resort centre is quiet; however, there are still some excellent restaurants and après options to choose from.

The ski area is home to more than 170 kilometres of slopes and reaches a towering elevation of 3,550 metres. The skiing is largely intermediate, with off-piste available for more advanced skiers. You’ll be exploring the ski region in no time after a short two-hour transfer from Milan.

Stay At:

A gorgeous four-star hotel perched above the Champoluc ski resort. Access the retreat by skidoo and feel right at home in the charming, rustic hotel.
