Backstage Vernissage Hotel

The Backstage Vernissage Hotel is a new addition to Zermatt’s hotel selection, and offers a unique hotel experience in one of the world's most iconic ski resorts. Centrally located, it's for those looking for something a bit different! In an ideal location in the village, the Backstage Vernissage is just a few minutes’ walk from the Gornergrat railway.

A quirky and unique design, with strong links to the Zermatt Unplugged music festival. The theme is 'backstage' and 'behind the scenes', the idea being that it's the place to relax during the intermission before going back on stage.

The upper floors of the Vernissage building house the hotel and incorporates a bar, lounge-restaurant, dinner cinema, club nights, concerts and art exhibitions. The hotel benefits from views looking out over Zermatt car free village and toward the Matterhorn.

19 open-plan rooms are all unique and quirky with a 'backstage theatre' theme, and range from standard rooms to Cube Lofts. Artwork adorns the walls and the rooms are finished in stainless steel, glass, walnut and fine velvet. Each has a fireplace, there is plenty of atmospheric lighting and the beds take centre stage.

Rooms are all open-plan and range from standard rooms to Cube Lofts. The beds take centre stage and the Cube Lofts are designed as a 'cube within a cube'.

The All rooms are equipped with sofa, workdesk, a minibar, free Internet connection, shower, hair dryer, bathrobe/slippers, flat screen cable TV, DVD & CD player, iPod dock, telephone and safe. They also all have balconies.

After skiing, the only place to head to is the must visit spa. The spa's theme is the 'seven days of creation' and there are seven spa cubes to experience, each with a different focus, ranging from 'water and air' to the 'cosmos' and the 'plantworld'. As well as the cubes, there is a heated outdoor stainless steel jacuzzi in the centre of the terrace.

A truly unique setting not found in many ski resorts, the Backstage Vernissage Hotel is great for those looking for luxury with a bit of a twist and of course for any aspiring rock stars who are looking to conquer the mighty Matterhorn.

Zermatt

Zermatt ski resort is commonly regarded as one of the best ski towns in the world, offering fabulous skiing, stupendous scenery and an extensive variety of high-quality restaurants and hotels. There has been a settlement here since the Middle Ages, with the first tourists flocking to the area in 1838. The town retains its traditional charm to this day with it being car-free, which creates a wonderfully relaxed and peaceful atmosphere and allows visitors to enjoy the clear mountain air. Free electric buses connect all the main lift stations on the valley floor and there are plenty of milk float-style electric taxis for hire. Wander off the main Bahnhofstrasse and you will quickly be walking beside ancient wooden “mazot” huts filled with farm animals and hay.

The magnificent Matterhorn is sufficient reason in itself to visit Zermatt. This distinctive pyramidal peak has become Switzerland's trademark around the globe. Wherever you are on the slopes or in the village, you cannot resist regular glances to see how its appearance is changing according to the light and the cloud conditions. At an altitude of 3,883m, the Matterhorn Ski Paradise is Switzerland's highest ski area; guaranteeing fabulous conditions all season long which truly live up to the magic of the town.
