Both tranquil on the slopes and in the picturesque village, La Thuille is a wonderful alternative to the more mainstream European resorts.
La Thuile is a former mining town with extensive pistes and linked to La Rosière in France via the slopes above the Petit San Bernard pass. The scenery is varied, with open bowls and lower wooded slopes overlooked by the nearby Mont Blanc massif. Even at peak times, the pistes of La Thuile are impressively crowd-free. Most of the resorts slopes are north or east facing and above 2,000m so the snow is reliable, and the pistes are kept well-groomed. La Thuile offers some serious blacks and plenty of off-piste action for the expert skiers but is largely for intermediates and beginners, with plenty of gentle blue and red runs on the slopes of Les Suches, perfect for cruising and carving.

Located in the Aosta Valley and bordering with the French resort of La Rosieré, La Thuile is situated within the Espace San Bernardo ski area. Here, skiers and boarders can access over 160km of slopes at all different levels of terrain. The quiet and uncrowded pistes that offer vast and varied options make it a popular resort for families.
On crowd-free slopes, skiers can enjoy a variety of terrain, including off-piste areas spread over the Espace San Bernardo area. The area is excellent for beginners, with two nursery slopes at the base of the La Thuile resort and more found on the French side, in La Rosieré. Intermediate and advanced skiers can choose from a range of red and black runs at the top of the mountain, as well as a sharp black run back down to the village. Heliskiing is also available for the more adventurous in your group.
Snowboarders can enjoy the Espace San Bernardo area with a combination of wide pistes to carve on and plenty of off-piste to ride on. Red run no.7 to the bottom of the valley is a favourite of boarders. Beginners are well catered for with gentle nursery slopes at the base of La Thuile, but also great progressive runs that are accessed by chairlift.

There are a number of great restaurants in La Thuile serving a variety of specialised traditional dishes, right through to classic pizzas and pastas. La Rascard offers a more fine dining experience, while La Lisse is known for its home-made pasta and extensive choice of local wines.
The après scene in La Thuile is quiet and informal. La Buvette, located at the bottom of the main gondola, is a popular choice for a well-deserved drink after a day on the slopes. Brasserie du Bathieu is also a good option and also serves food until late. For later in the evening, La Cage Aux Folles is lively with music as well as airing sporting events.
Non-skiers can enjoy dog sledding, cleared walking paths, ice skating and even snowshoeing in the La Thuile area. La Thuile village also has a range of restaurants, cafes and shops to explore. The Planibel complex has a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and fitness centre open to the public. Alternatively, there is a bus that runs to the larger resort of Courmayeur.
