Still largely undiscovered by the rest of Europe, Champoluc is one of the last hidden gems in the Italian Dolomites.
Apart from the first week in January, when half of Turin descends on Champoluc, this resort remains largely uncrowded. It's part of the Monterosa Ski area, in the Aosta Valley, with a combined total of nearly 200km of runs. Champoluc is a very Italian venue, with good food and après-ski, which revolves primarily around restaurants and bars. It's generally pretty quiet, with top scenery and largely intermediate skiing and there's some decent off-piste for more advanced skiers.

The beautiful and quiet Champoluc is the largest resort located in the Monte Rosa ski area. Part of the Aosta Valley, the resort is elevated at 1,570 metres and boasts breathtaking views over the region's peaks. The vast ski area has plenty of pisted and off-piste runs to keep you entertained. It's no surprise that the quietness of this resort is one of its biggest bonuses, with short to non-existent lift queues and peaceful slopes.
Champoluc is ideal for intermediates and experts, with a range of red slopes, tree-lined runs and off-piste skiing. However, this is not to disregard beginners as there are gentle blue slopes that are great to learn on. For the adventurous, and if the conditions are right, there are opportunities for heliskiing, where you can access beautifully unspoiled snow.
Although not ideal for intermediates or beginners, there are great off-piste boarding opportunities for experts. There are also no drag lifts which is a big bonus for those on a snowboard.

You are spoilt for choice for restaurants in Champoluc, with most hotels having good restaurants with delicious food. Hotel La Rouja is a good example of this, serving traditional Italian cuisine. In addition, Ristorante L'Essentiel da Andreone is a resort favourite, serving traditional food made from local ingredients.
Après ski in Champoluc is a more relaxed scene, though there are a few places to stop for a drink after the lifts close. Rifugio Belvedere and Atelier Gourmand are resort favourites as well as Pub Il Golosone that has live music and themed nights.
