Le Grand Bornand ski resort is part of the Aravis ski area and offers a total of 220km of slopes to get stuck into. The ski area is linked with other ski resorts such as La Clusaz and Manigod. Le Grand Bornand is situated at 1,300m and has lifts going as high as 2,600m so there is usually good snow coverage during the peak season. The ski area has a great variety of challenging and gentle runs to suit every skier. This ski resort is also perfect for cross-country skiers offering 150km of cross-country trails.

Skiing in Le Grand Bornand

The skiing in Le Grand Bornand is great for beginners and intermediates, with plenty of nursery slopes on offer as well as lots of wide cruising blues which are perfect for building up technique. Advanced skiers will not find as much challenging terrain within the main area, but can head over to La Balme for more advanced descents and some great off-piste territory.

The main ski area is good for beginners and intermediate boarders, offering wide cruisey runs with little traffic. Advanced snowboarders may have more of a struggle finding more difficult runs however can enjoy use of the freestyle park which is excellent and full of plenty of rails, kickers and a half pipe.

Le Grand Bornand and the other ski resorts in Aravis have a lot to offer in great restaurants. Aux Aravis is known for their fantastic burgers and tartiflette. For a fine dining experience try Le Confins Des Sens; by far Grand Bornand’s most luxurious restaurant. On the mountain, La Taverne and Le Panoramic 1800 are two restaurants that are definitely worth spending lunch in once or twice during your stay.

Après Ski in Le Grand Bornand

Much of the nightlife in Le Grand Bornand is subdued, this is mainly a family resort and therefore this resort doesn’t have the bar and après culture of other ski resorts. The Green Monkey is a popular bar with a relaxed atmosphere and normally has music playing after the lifts shut. For a late-night spot, head to the nightclub Lalu. 

Non-Skiers

In a one-hour drive from Le Grand Bornand ski resort you will find the Lac du Bourget, the largest natural lake in France. This spot is the perfect day excursion for those who have a car. In resort, Hiking, snowshoeing, paragliding, hot air ballooning, ice climbing, horse riding, snowmobiling and ice skating are all available throughout the season. You can also discover some of the local culture and see how the famous Reblochon cheese is made on a guided tour of the village and the area.
