Kicking Horse ski resort has some of the greatest powder and superb skiing on offer. This village is very much alive and kicking from its nest amongst the sweeping, tree-lined mountains, above the town of Golden. Two magnificent peaks loom above, both sewn with a tapestry of rippling blues, several long winding greens and some tasty blacks.

Kicking Horse ski resort is a great mountain village. Luxury ski accommodation now lines the ski resort and more bars and restaurants are popping up each year, including the popular Eagle’s Eye mountain restaurant at 2,345m.

There is 100km of pistes and five lifts. The skiing terrain is challenging with 60km of black runs on the mountain. Kicking Horse ski resort is suited to advanced skiers or snowboarders. There’s also awesome off-piste skiing opportunities on a powder day. Kicking Horse is a regular stop on the Freeride World Tour. 

The village itself is a pretty quiet mountain town. People visit the resort for the unique terrain rather than the après ski. However, there is still a good selection of bars to enjoy a relaxed drink. There are beautiful mountain views to admire from the village and the slopes. 

You can get to Kicking Horse ski resort by flying to Calgary Airport. It has a transfer time of two hours and a half. Other Canadian ski resorts such as Banff, Revelstoke or Sun Peaks are a drive away.

With 100km of piste and five lifts, Kicking Horse ski resort is one of the smaller ski resorts in Canada, yet don't mistake it for an easy ride. The resort has a reputation for being a hard ski with difficult terrain - perfect to challenge expert skiers. This, however, is not to say there isn't anything for beginners with one chairlift solely dedicated for them.

Skiing in Kicking Horse

The Golden Eagle Express will get you right to the top of the mountain in no time. How you get down again is your decision. Take your pick from undulating bowls, chutes and wooded tree runs, or make your way to Blue Heaven Peak and play in the powder for hours. Experts will love the short, sharp blacks and bumper moguls in the woods whilst beginners can enjoy good nursery slopes further down the mountain.

Wide open slopes mean freeride snowboarders will enjoy riding the mountains in Kicking Horse. With nearly the entire upper bowl hosting freeride terrain, the resort is a boarders haven. A large number of chutes as well as off-piste with natural hits make it ideal for intermediate to expert snowboarders.

Kicking Horse ski resort hosts daycare for children, from 18 months to 5 years, for either a half-day or full-day. There is also the possibility of an additional option through the daycare centre called 'Adventure Hour' where a ski instructor will take your child out for a one to two hour lesson.

The Eagle Eye restaurant situated at over 2,300m is a must visit in Kicking Horse ski resort. Expect tasty gourmet food and panoramic views over surrounding mountain ranges and five different national parks. There are also a number of different restaurants located in the village including the Copperhorse Steakhouse known for its amazing dining experience. 

Après Ski in Kicking Horse

Après ski can be found at Peaks Grill at the base of Kicking Horse ski resort or alternatively the Whitetooth Grill. The Local Hero Pub also has music, beers and a blazing outdoor fire on their patio - so you can enjoy both après and the scenery.

Non-Skiers

Non-skiers can enjoy other winter activities including snowmobiling, snowshoeing and ice skating. The nearest town of Golden is also only 20 minutes from Kicking Horse ski resort and offers a diverse and vibrant yet authentic town to explore.
