Katschberg Ski Resort

Katschberg in Austria is a great family ski resort, located in the holiday region of Katschberg-Rennweg. There are 70km of slopes available served by 16 lifts. The winter sports area is situated between the elevations of 1,066 and 2,220m.

The ski resort of Katschberg benefits from doorstep skiing, an unspoilt, quiet ski area, a huge array of child-friendly activities and an excellent snow record. The mountains natural characteristics are suited to beginner skiers and boarders. The dedicated nursery slopes and miles of uncrowded pistes are perfect for a wide range of abilities and the surrounding beautiful pine forests means most of the runs are tree-lined. Nightlife is on the low-key side and is concentrated in the traditional town centre.

Katschberg is a family-friendly resort and hot spot for fans of winter sports. The great altitude of 1,640m to 2,220m and south-facing mountain faces means that Katschberg benefits from fantastic snow and lovely warm sunshine. The comfortably wide slopes and short waiting times for the lifts mean the area is popular with regular skiers and boarders, yet uncrowded. The slopes are snow sure due to fantastic modern snow-making facilities even during warmer weather and sunshine.

With excellent skiing for intermediates, Katschberg is part of the Lungau ski area and has access to 131km of downhill skiing (70km of which is in Katschberg itself). That’s 57 individual pistes, served by 32 ski lifts, some of which are above 2,000m with very reliable snow cover. There are only 10km of runs suitable for beginners, so it’s ideal for complete beginners that won’t be travelling too far on their first trip to the snow. There is a small fun park that younger children will love to play around in.

Wide carving slopes adorn much of Katschberg, making it ideal for boarders that prefer to stick on the piste rather than off it. There is, however, a snow park and a halfpipe for riders looking to carve up obstacles rather than just the slopes.

The restaurants and ski huts throughout Katschberg are renowned for being cosy and quaint, combined with warming hospitality. There are a huge variety of eateries throughout the resort, attracting skiers at all times of the day, stopping for Germknödel, mulled wines and many other regional delicacies. The Adlerhorst in particular is raved about; sitting at 2,222m on the slopes, the restaurant gives some of the best views of the region you can find.

The Wilderer Alm is well known for its homemade schnapps and beautiful wine cellar; and with the party starting at 3:30pm, party lovers will revel in all that it has to offer. Some après options are much more relaxed than others, meaning you can choose what you fancy each evening.
