Chamonix is world renowned for its challenging skiing, backcountry routes and scenic mountains but there is plenty on offer for all skiers. The skiing is spread over several areas accessed by bus or taxi and all offering something a little bit different. Given the scale and depth of the area, we highly recommend skiing with a local instructor or guide to make the most of your time on the snow. Chamonix is a gorgeous town full of shops and restaurants. It’s a fabulous place to wander after a day’s skiing with a huge number of options for dining.

Staying at the historic Grand Hotel des Alpes, you can enjoy a delightful and relaxing ambience. The library-style bar with open log fire and terrace is quiet and peaceful and the frescoed breakfast room is charming. Off the slopes you can experience scenic helicopter rides, the historic Montenvers funicular railway, winter walks, and even visit the Ice Cave carved into a glacier.

Travelling then to Courmayeur on the Italian side of Mont Blanc, you’ll experience more amazing skiing as well as delicious Italian dining. A truly characterful mountain village with quaint streets and stunning views whichever way you turn. A wander down Via Roma in the early evening is charming with plenty of après ski bustle. The ski area is compact but has a good variety of runs and some long descents so great for intermediates. Once again the back country and off piste options for advanced skiers are excellent so well worth hiring a guide to explore the terrain.

You’ll be staying at Le Massif, a 5-star modern hotel. Alongside all the facilities you would expect, they also have a slope side chalet, La Loge du Massif, which houses a cosy lounge/bar, a gourmet restaurant and a ski room where your ski kit will be stored and ready for you each morning so you can step in and ski away with no need to carry equipment around.
