ROSS-HEADSHOT

My first skiing experience was before I can remember, aged only four in the Portes du Soleil ski area, visiting Chatel in France. Morzine, which is also linked to the Portes du Soleil area, is my family’s favourite resort and a destination we have continued to visit every year.  Growing up I developed a love of adventure and awe of the mountains. During my first season, I worked night shifts in Serre Chevalier so I could ski until 3pm every day. Since then, I can’t get enough, and it’s safe to say I’m addicted. I got into the ski industry because it’s gratifying to organise a brilliant trip, especially for people who have never skied before. Also, travelling to resorts for a work trip is a bonus!

Number of Seasons

Two seasons, one in Serre Chevalier in the kitchen and the following year as a childcare rep with Esprit based between St Anton and Obergurgl.

Skiing Wisdom

Top Tip

Decide where to go each day based on the conditions. For example, suppose it’s dumping with snow, head for treelined areas to have more visibility and avoid busy areas on weekends.

Best Skiing Moment

A day with a Canadian guide and Olympic trainer in Whistler Blackcomb, hitting some challenging terrain and going outside the comfort zone!

My Favourite Resorts

Morzine

My favourite has to be Morzine, specifically the village of St Jean d’Aulps. I grew up skiing here and had the best powder day of my life in April in Montriond with a great crowd before eating far too much Tartiflette. There’s so much variety and hidden gems around Montriond that makes it very special.

Obergurgl

My second favourite might have to be Obergurgl for the classic après ski and the fact that a lot of the off-piste terrain stays untracked into the afternoon, meaning you can have some fantastic runs for much longer than a lot of larger resorts.
