Hotel Le Blizzard

The most popular hotel in the resort with both the French and the English, it is essential to book early for this relaxed, but luxuriously appointed five star hotel. French in both style and atmosphere as well as clientele as no tour operators feature the hotel, Hotel Le Blizzard has a wonderful chalet feel to it with wooden beams, open fireplace, comfy sofas and the best bar in town, presided over by David - a superb host. There is a great indoor/outdoor pool and unique wooden hot tub surrounded by a sunny terrace, which comes into its own in the Spring when the terrace is a great spot for lunch. The hotel offers either B&B or half board.

On the main street, next door to the Tsanteleina, it is a short walk to the main Solaise/Bellevarde lifts - or the bus stops virtually outside the hotel if you wish to head for Le Fornet or La Daille.

Val d'Isère

Val d'Isère is probably the resort that has access to the best all-round ski area in the world, the Espace Killy With just over 100 lifts compared to the 300 to be found in the Trois Vallées, the Espace Killy is obviously not the largest ski area in the world, but size isn’t everything and this region has as much skiing as one could ever need, not to mention the longest winter in the Alps. (The winter ski season here begins in late November and continues until early May and the early- and late-season conditions are seldom disappointing.

The main centre of Val d'Isere has been virtually rebuilt over the past 25 years and many of the buildings are imaginative contemporary interpretations of the traditional stone and wood Savoyard style.

Val d'Isere ski holidays were revolutionised with the introduction of apres-ski in the 80s when Dick Yates-Smith set up the seminal bar-nightclub, known as Dicks Tea-Bar.
