Ski Areas

With a resort altitude of 2,100m and a top lift going as high as 3,550m, a Tignes ski holiday offers one of the most snow-sure ski trips in Europe. The Grande Motte glacier means that you can ski here nearly all year round, with the lifts open 11 months of the year. With a healthy selection of green, blues, reds and blacks; Tignes is the perfect resort for all levels of skiers. Tignes also links with Val-d'Isère to form the Espace Killy, one of the most impressive ski areas in the world.

Tignes accommodations

Accommodation

Skiing

The upper sections of the Grande Motte are a good place for beginners to get their ski legs on, with most of the terrain being rather gentle. Intermediate and advanced skiers will probably benefit the most from the Espace Killy’s diverse skiing area. There are some great cruising blues and steep descents to be found on the Grand Motte, and long winding slopes can be found in Val Claret and Col de Fresse. Freeriders will want to ski the Paquerette, Epilobe and the face of the Aiguille Percee for some steep powdery action.

Snowboarding

Tignes continues to offer plenty of opportunities for riders to practice the wildest tricks in its special 2km long snowpark. It contains a pipe for beginners, a Pro pipe and a boardercross course; as well as a separate area for beginners and children. The modern lift system in the Espace Killy is well suited to boarders, whilst the top section of the Grande Motte is ideal for beginners.

Freeriders have plenty of choice in Tignes, with some long powder-runs such as the Aiguille Percee to Tignes Les Brevieres.

Ski Schools

In Tignes we recommend both New Generation and Evolution 2 who offer private and group lessons for all ages and abilities, both on piste and off. Tignes also has one of the best ESF ski schools in France.

Crèches

Tignes offers a good selection of childcare. Les Marmottons kindergarten works with the ski schools Evolution 2 to offer lessons for children aged three years upwards. There is also T4 Nannies, a private nanny company, who will look after young children.

Restaurants

Tignes has a plethora of restaurants, most of which serve traditional Alpine food. Mendikoa is a great place for traditional French cuisine such as tartiflette and steak dishes. Loop Bar is a must for a relaxed lunch on their sun terrace and next door Tignes Cuisine offers affordable Asian inspired dishes. At the top of the Chaudannes lift, L'Alpage des Chaudannes is a great spot for a lunch break. They serve a great variety of food at reasonable prices and the portion sizes are usually very generous.

Après Ski

Our favourite spot is Loop Bar, which is in a prime position overlooking the slopes with a sunny terrace. Over in Val Claret we really like the Couloir Bar & Restaurant. Saloon bar is also worth a visit, with a happy hour and live DJs and Cocorico is the place to be seen after the lifts close.

For night-owls, the top late-night haunts are Melting pot, Jacks Club and Le Blue Girl.

Non-Skiers

Tignes has plenty of alternative activities for adventurous non-skiers, including ice diving, snow rafting, ice climbing and microlight flights. There are also more leisurely things to do like visit one of Tignes' many spas, the great leisure centre, bowling alley or many shops.
