Zell am See ski resort offers beautiful lakeside views. Go skiing in Zell am See to enjoy high-altitude slopes on the glacier.
Zell am See is a beautiful lakeside resort that combines family facilities with lively nightlife and a skiable glacier.
It's a pretty town on the shores of Lake Zell surrounded by towering mountains. Its pedestrianised centre dates back to the 13th century and positively buzzes in the evenings. Zell is popular in summer and winter, meaning the tourist infrastructure is excellent. It is so family-friendly that it has won various awards, while the lively nightlife appeals to the party crowd.
The winter 2019/20 season marked the opening of two large new lift projects, K-onnection and zellamseeXpress. These transform the resort's skiing into one of the most diverse ski areas in Austria. Enjoy 408km of pistes and 121 lift facilities spanning three resorts, all of which can be accessed by the Ski Alpin card.

Zell am See is located on the shores of Lake Zeller See and has direct access to the glacier in Kaprun. Many of the pistes are tree-lined, making it a very picturesque resort. From the top of the resort, you can see over 30 3,000m+ mountain peaks, giving one of the best views in Austria. Whatever level of skiing ability, the resort gives the perfect opportunity to practice all manner of skills and build confidence.
Intermediates will be in their element in Zell am See thanks to the abundance of long easy-going runs, including a fabulous 8km blue decent down the Schmittenhöhe mountain. However, there is much for beginners and advanced skiers to enjoy too, with plenty of blue runs for beginners to progress onto and a fair few exhilarating blacks to keep the daredevils happy too, including the tough 2km long Skiroute Streif Rennstrecke which pitches at a dizzying 45°.
Snowboarders are well looked after in Zell am See as the resort has been improving its facilities in recent years and now has a number of well-regarded parks for boarders to enjoy. Most of the lifts are chairs and cable cars, leading up to a lot of good freeriding on the upper slopes of the mountain and great runs through the trees at the lower end of the hill.
With many ski schools and instructors to choose between, there really is something for everybody.
We’ve partnered with SkiBro, New Generation and Oxygène and highly recommend their services. All of our partners offer fantastic lessons for all ability levels.

You will be well fed in Zell am See. Up the mountain, many of the lunch spots are small traditional establishments, where you can enjoy some hearty mountain meals. In town, there is no shortage of quality eateries, ranging from simple cafes to fine dining gourmet restaurants. The Eichenhof enjoys great views over Lake Zell from its dining room, and for an exciting menu balancing both French and Italian influences head to The Erlhof.
Zell am See’s après ski scene is lively enough to keep those that want it thoroughly entertained, yet also maintains a more sophisticated side for those looking for something a little more refined. The Crazy Daisy bar has been a mainstay of the resort for years and is consistently busy once the ski day is over. The resort’s Irish bar is Flannigan’s and Greens is worth a look in for their tasty cocktails.
There is a good amount to keep you entertained off the mountain in Zell am See with a good amount of shopping for a ski resort and winter activities such as curling, Nordic walking and ice skating on offer.
