Snow-sure resorts for a ski weekend

Regardless of the quality of the facilities, how diverse the nightlife is, or how highly-rated the food scene, a ski weekend needs guaranteed snow. If you’re looking to combine stylish, comfortable accommodation and skiing first to last lifts with plentiful snow and vast open terrain, take a look at our guide to snow-sure resorts in Europe.

Saas-Fee | Switzerland

Saas-Fee is often hailed as Europe’s prettiest ski village, and it certainly works hard to keep this image. This ancient settlement is dominated by its car-free, picturesque centre, as well as the quaint chalets that are dotted throughout the town. Its legendary views and landscape have earned it the title of the “Pearl of the Alps”, making it a fantastic destination for ski holidays throughout winter and early spring.

The setting is stunning, with several towering 4,000m peaks surrounding the main village. The vast majority of runs are over 3,500m high and north facing, making it perfect for late season snow. These factors combine to make Saas-Fee the perfect location for both early and late season ski holidays. You’ll also find superb glacial skiing, which keeps the area’s lifts open well into early summer. Saas-Fee is only a two hour and 30-minute drive from Geneva, making it a snow-sure ski weekend destination.

St. Anton in Austria on a sunny snowy day in winter

St. Anton | Austria

St. Anton has a lively atmosphere while retaining its traditional Tyrolean charm. One of the best ski resorts for a ski weekend, St Anton is just two hours from three major airports. With its vast terrain and snow-sure record, there is plenty of skiing for intermediate and advanced skiers. The ski area has 340 kiolmetres of pistes, as well as 90 lifts and gondolas.

St Anton is dubbed the spiritual home of après ski. The two bars, Krazy Kangaruh and the Mooserwirst kicked off the party in the 1960’s and have been going ever since. Opposite each other on the piste, they’re the perfect places to finish your day skiing with a warm Glühwein.

Les Deux Alpes ski resort in France on a sunny bluebird day

Les Deux Alpes | France

Les Deux Alpes is just a one-hour drive from Grenoble and at an elevation of over 3,500m, its perfectly located for an early or late snow-sure ski weekend. The town is a long, narrow development perched at the top of a high ledge, with modern architecture and amenities. There is an ice rink at the heart of the development, which is a great off-piste evening activity.

The resort has a wide variety of slopes and a glacier which means that the resort consistently benefits from good snowfall. Opening in early December and closing late April every year, it is suitable to all levels of skiers and boarders. There are great off-piste opportunities, especially in neighbouring La Grave which has kilometers of terrain to explore for more advanced skiers.
