Enjoy a luxury ski holiday in Switzerland

Posted by - Craig Burton on Thu 7th February 2013

Switzerland is famed for its quality snow, knowledgeable skiing culture and first class hospitality, and it's a fantastic destination for those seeking a luxury ski break. Whether you're looking for a chalet holiday for your friends and family, or a ski hotel that will cater for your every whim, Swiss resorts offer a host of luxury ski options designed to make your ski break especially memorable. St Moritz and Verbier are two of the most popular resorts in the region, so here is a run-down of some of the highlights to consider when planning your ski break.

St Moritz
Few resorts can lay claim to more historical culture than St Moritz, which has long been a popular destination for tourists ever since medieval pilgrims were lured there by the belief that its natural springs possessed healing properties. The town has grown along with the development of winter sports in the twentieth century, and boasts the only bobsleigh run in the world to be handcrafted from natural ice.
The unquestionable centrepiece of this classic Alpine resort has to be the luxury ski hotel of Badrutt’s Palace. Opened in 1896, it has over six restaurants as well as a swimming pool, private skating rink and wonderful spa facilities. The atmosphere is warm and the attention to detail in the little things (for instance, with your luggage being picked up from your train and delivered straight to your room) makes this an outstanding venue for a luxury ski break.
The Kulm Hotel is another famous residence in St Moritz, featuring a number of high-quality restaurants to suit your mood, which can themselves be something to see, like the stunning ballroom opulence of Le Grand Restaurant, for example.
Set in the Engadine valley, St Moritz offers beautiful, panoramic views of the Engadine Mountains, while the highest peak in the Eastern Alps, the Piz Bernina, is just a few kilometres south of the town, providing challenging mountain ski routes and stunning views.

Verbier With access to over 410km of runs, Verbier is a hot destination for all types of skier on a luxury ski break, with loads of opportunities for both on and off-piste skiing. A large, fashionable town with an excellent selection of shops, its après-ski lifestyle is so popular that skiers travel from neighbouring towns just to sample what it has to offer.
The ultra-sleek Nevai Hotel best encapsulates Verbier’s modern approach to the luxury ski experience. Its restaurant offers varied culinary delights from its open grill, while the sunken seats and gorgeous ambient lighting of its lounge provide the ultimate in sophisticated relaxation.
Verbier is also home to a selection of brilliant luxury ski chalets that come highly recommended. Mont Fort, in particular, feels like a five star hotel, with a log fire, satellite TV and a Jacuzzi in the master bedroom, providing you with everything you need to unwind after an adventurous day out skiing. It's fully catered, so all you have to worry about during your ski break is relaxing from the moment you step off the slopes.
Verbier is particularly popular in springtime, when the longer days mean that balconies stay sunny late into the afternoon, providing unrivalled relaxation and stunning views of surrounding peaks: the perfect way to spend your luxury ski break.
