Hotel Gasthof Post

One of the finest luxury ski hotels in Austria, if not the Alps, the Relais & Châteaux Gasthof Post is delightfully relaxed compared to its more formal rivals and rates comfortably as our favourite hotel in Lech. Originally a staging post, it has been in the Moosbrugger family for over 60 years and is now run by Florian and his wife, Sandra. The Gasthof Post's restaurant is excellent with a superb wine list featuring many interesting Austrian wines. Facilities are naturally five star and include a superb swimming pool and spa. The Gasthof post is extremely popular so early booking is highly recommended - it also operates a strict Sunday to Sunday booking policy, except in very low season. Featured in Hip Hotels Ski.

Bedrooms

The rooms could not be more delightful. Truly alpine in style, they vary from the spacious standard doubles to the excellent Jager rooms which are even larger. Postillion or Postmeister apartments might have a fireplace or their own steam bath and the Herzog and Fursten suites are the height of luxury. There are also 2 delightful suites in the tiny chalet across the road - one ideal for families.

Lech

Lech is one of the most exclusive ski resorts in the world (once claiming kings were guests and guests were kings) with a determination to give its customers the best at all times. Located in the Austrian Arlberg region, it is probably the most exclusive resort in the Alps - in every sense of the word.

The local Lech-Zürs ski area on its own has some fantastic skiing with plenty of interesting runs to entertain you. However, recent investment in new ski infrastructure means the whole of the Arlberg area (including St.Anton, Zürs, Warth and Schröcken) is now connected via a series of fast gondolas. Until recently the only way to get to St. Anton from Lech was via a bus, so this has dramatically changed the area and increased the skiing potential. The Arlberg ski area now has 305km of runs making it the biggest ski region in Austria and roughly the same size as the vast Espace Killy (Tignes and Val D’Isere) area in France. Situated in what in winter is usually a dead-end valley, Lech is a pretty and compact village where development has been carefully planned and monitored over the years.

Two hundred metres above Lech itself is the satellite of Oberlech. This is a car-free area which comprises a cluster of large four-star hotels. It is reached by a cable car from Lech, which runs till 1am. Oberlech is an ideal choice for families with young children as it has its own ski kindergarten
