The original hotel opened in 1901 and in 1930 was transformed and flourished as the most luxurious hotel in the area for many years. Sadly, it fell into disrepair and was finally closed and lay empty for several years. In 2001 the Cristallo reopened, after a painstaking restoration which has managed to revive the old, original grandeur and yet incorporate modern technology and also created a state-of-the-art fitness spa making it one of the top 5-star hotels in the Dolomites. The world-famous Monkey Club, a nightspot that made history in the ’60s and ’70s when Cortina was a meeting place for the international jet set, is now open for private events.
